Come on heart

Took the hoot of a commute home tonight on the On-One single speed. Fun, muddy, slippery, technical... but struggled to get the heart rate up tonight. I think I'm a bit tired. Time for a rest day in prep for a smashing 6am-er weekend.

2 hours MTB

Full Gas

Went long this morning with The Duke... finally (and Mick Day, Steggles, Dennis the Oz champ and others). Good strong bunch rolling turns down to Frankston then everyone got smashed around Two Bays by Steggles and Duke. I was pretty happy to be third to the top out of 8 riders and not too distant from those two. Wayne and I cut our original two loop plan down to one in order to return to Melbourne with another five or so riders. Too tempting to come back with a solid group, although I didn't appreciate the waft from the rider who happened to be in front of me down one side. How can someone stink so much and not be aware? Both Duke and I noticed the bike was putrid (a bit like The Claw's) and came to the conclusion that this fella was just a dirty dirty man!

I reckon my massive Cycleworks bannered backside would have been clearly noticed by riders at a distance of two feet through at least 150 turns!

Finished with a coffee at Gas in South Melbourne and still managed to be firmly planted behind the desk at 9:30am with 120k in the bank.

The Kinda Hurt Box

The 6am-er Hurt Box?... Mmmmm... kinda hurt.

Nice smooth rolling turns this morning with at least 8 contributors. Those involved have clearly been doing this for a while together now as the standard of skill involved was a mile better than our efforts of six months ago. Really nice and a pleasure to be in the company of such a fantastic bunch of blokes. The coffee shop was full this morning, and as much as I feel sorry for those who are there for a quiet morning coffee, I reckon the owners must work their weekly budget around the arrival of the 6am-ers on a Tuesday morning.

Shawie conducted a Winners Bar promo-shoot today and lots of excitement around the new gear El Mantes has organised (right). I can see a pretty big order going in. Nice to know this morning wasn't enough to put El Mantes in the blender! Love it... in the blender. The Wall can do that to you after 120k.

1.5hr home on the single speed struggling up some hills in the 53/16 pretty much put me in the blender for tonight but hopefully I'll be up for an extended Wednesday morning with The Duke.

95k and about 3 hours.

103kg and diving.

Hoot of a commute

After a big day like yesterday on the road bike, it's always nice to fall into the warm car for the trip into work. A shocking day of people issues at work and I was ready to hit the trails for the MTB home. The trails were just the right amount of tacky and the night was clear as a bell. It was with reluctance I headed up the hill from the Yarra Trails to home to rack the SS.

2 fantastic hours of single track on the single speed. That's the way to get home!

6am-er hurt box in the morning. Hopefully a few more than three of us pulling the turns this week.

6am-er Smashfest Sunday

It was intended to be a big one today. The 6am-er Pav followed by a circuit of the Macclesfield road-racing circuit then coffee at Emerald. The perfect Warny Warmer that didn't disappoint. Seven of us saw a return from Emerald via The Wall with 150ks in the bank and very tired legs. No doubt most of us will be spending a bit of time on the couch this arvo (as I am now).

Great prep for my next CTS race too, where I'll be trying to represent Cycleworks as best I can. Five hours on a road bike doesn't equate to five on a MTB though! Some may beg to differ... they'd be wrong.

Diesel, Shawie, Brave, El Mantes, 21 Tooth, Mangoes and The Claw saw the lot. Mad Mike went home early from our first run through Emerald after feeling a bit smashed (MM - try more than 100k per week... although it's amazing how you go on that).

150k - 4.25hrs - Hard turns and lots of climbing.

First post

This is my first blog and my first post. I will attempt to keep a diary of my musings (mostly cycling related) and the general way I am feeling about things. It will be pretty boring to most of course so anyone who follows or reads will be a bonus.
